Flight 19

People believe "Flight 19" to be the beginning of the myth of the Bermuda Triangle. On December 5, 1945, five TBM-3 Avenger Torpedo Bombers went missing during a training flight. That evening, a distress call was made from the flight leader explaining that they didn't know where they were and they were running out of fuel but that was the last thing heard from the five planes. The Martin Mariner PBM Flying Boat was sent out to search for and rescue any survivors found from the Avenger planes. Later that night the Mariner also lost contact with the towers and went missing. The Navy and Coast Guard searched the area the vessels were last heard from and although there were some reports of exlposions during this search, no wreckage from Flight 19 was ever found.
